Desktone to Deliver Virtual Desktops as a Service with HP

DesktoneDesktone, Inc. has created a partner program to offer desktops as a service (DaaS) based on its Desktone Virtual-D Platform. Hewlett-Packard's Flexible Computing Services (HP FCS) has become the first member of the program.

"We're extremely pleased that, by signing on to our program, HP is demonstrating that it recognizes the value DaaS can provide to their business," said Les Yetton, Senior Vice President, Sales Marketing and Business Development, Desktone.

"We are excited to be the first to join the Desktone Service Provider Partner Program and take a lead role in delivering on the promise of virtual desktops as a service," said Christopher Smith, Americas Business Development Manager of HP FCS.

Desktone Service Provider Program Deskton's program is targeted at service providers who are already in the hosting or outsourcing businesses and want to leverage their existing data centers.

Sun Launches Solaris On Demand

Solaris On Demand, a sofware-as-a-service product offering technology, hosted infrastructure and consulting was announced by Sun Microsystems (Nasdaq: JAVA). This service is especially targeted at independent software vendors (ISVs) with a traditional, on-premise license model who want to offer their existing application on-demand but the service could also be used to create virtual Solaris testing environments.

To provide the hosting, Sun is working with NaviSite, AT&T's USi and NTT Europe Online.
